Erik ten Hag told Manchester United should sign £30m World Cup star after Rasmus Hojlund transfer

Rene Meulensteen has urged former club Manchester United to move for Sofyan Amrabat after they have rubber-stamped their big-money transfer for Denmark frontman Rasmus Hojlund.

After completing his medical, Hojlund is poised and ready to be unveiled at Old Trafford this summer. He will arrive to bolster the attacking ranks for a fee which could rise to £72million with add-ons.

Hojlund, 20, will follow Mason Mount and Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana through the doors. Further signings might well be dependant on outgoings - due to budget constraints - and Erik ten Hag and the Old Trafford recruitment team admire Amrabat.

Mooted to be available for around £30million this summer, the 26-year-old has earned rave reviews for his displays with Italian outfit Fiorentina and he was also a shining light at the World Cup in Qatar this winter as Morocco defied the odds to reach the last-four before losing to eventual runners-up France.

Amrabat - capped 49 times by his country - only has 12 months left to run on his contract. As reported earlier in the summer by Manchester Evening News, United are open to a swoop.

Meulensteen was pressed on Amrabat during his latest talkSPORT appearance. The former United coach said: "He's a good player, he had a fantastic World Cup and brings something different to the team which United needs.

"Erik is really building his side now with Onana and Mount and obviously the striker Hojlund."
