Who is Bailey Rice? Rangers boss Michael Beale declares starlet 'ready for the madhouse'

The Rangers team that beat Real Betis may have had no Scots in it, but there's one ready to burst on to the scene.

Bailey Rice might only be 16, but there's been an Ibrox buzz around the teenager for some time now. He's made his top team debut last February in a 3-0 win over Livingston at the Tony Mac. Since then, he's been kept under wraps, continuing his development with the Gers B team and Scotland youth squads.

A lack of youngsters making the leap to first-team level is a criticism that's been levelled at Rangers over recent seasons. They saw off the side from Seville on Thursday night without a Scotsman in the starting lineup, with Ryan Jack the only one to feature after coming off the bench. Scott Wright is well down the pecking order, Robby McCrory is second choice keeper and Michael Beale padded out the bench with the likes of Kieran Wright, Cole McKinnon, Adam Devine, Leon King and Aaron Lyall.

Rice may not have been involved, and Beale admits he'll need to protect him from the Ibrox "madhouse". But the boss is convinced Rice is ready to cook despite his tender years. He said: "I'm telling you we've got a heck of a player in Bailey Rice. He's 16 - he's not 17 until the end of next month. 'So when I introduce him to this mad ouse, my protection of him is important. But I'm telling you he's ready."
