Frank Lampard 'lucky' to get Rangers boss look in as Simon Jordan names the Celtic question Ibrox board must answer
Simon Jordan has branded Frank Lampard "lucky" if he lands the Rangers job as he challenged the Ibrox board to contrast their next appointment with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.
Record Sport understands former Chelsea and Everton boss Lampard met an Ibrox delegation in London on Wednesday night to discuss taking over from sacked boss Michael Beale at the struggling Scottish Premiership giants. That has seen the odds tumble on the England legend to take over the hot seat - overtaking the likes of Yokohama F. Marinos boss Kevin Muscat in the running for the vacant post.
But baffled pundit Jordan admits he isn't sure why the Rangers board would want to appoint Lampard after a lacklustre stint managing in the English Premier League so far as he ripped apart his dugout record. And the former Crystal Palace owner reckons chief executive James Bisgrove only has one question to answer when considering appointing Lampard - is he the man to make up seven-point lead currently held by Celtic.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan said: "The club should be looking around to make sure the size of the club is replicated by the competence in, because clearly Rangers are a big football club with a decent turnover and are losing to sides in Europe under the auspices that sides in Scotland are so poor, but sides in Europe don't have a bigger budget than they do. I think he'll be very lucky (to get the Rangers job).
"I'm talking from Rangers' perspective, if I'm Rangers I'm looking at what fixes it for me. I'm not looking at redemption for somebody who can learn on the job. The answer to the question is do we think Frank Lampard in the dugout overcomes Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.
