"When the time comes" - Rodri offers update on Man City and Real Madrid transfer plans

As Rodri looks to add the European Championship to his impressive collection of titles, it's no surprise that his Spanish teammates are trying to persuade him to leave Manchester City.

Dani Carvajal made headlines this week when he said he has been working to try and tempt Rodri to sign for Real Madrid. “I tell him every day to leave Manchester, that there is no sun there and to come to Madrid, that we need him, " the right-back said.

However, Carvajal also said that Rodri's reply is to commit himself to City. “He tells me he has a contract... but he would be perfect for us.”

Now, Rodri has spoken of the prospect of returning to Spain, repeating that he has 'three years left' on his contract at the Etihad, but also saying that Madrid is 'his home'.

"I try to analyse all the decisions I make, to have a criterion. And, above all, to go through the processes. I am very, very happy in England," he told AS, in an answer that will reassure City but also leave the door open for a potential return to Spain later in his career.

"I think I am in one of the best clubs in the world, that is obvious, and I am happy. I have a three-year contract and, when the time comes, I will see.

"But I have said it before with regard to the short term. I do not like or it does not make much sense to look at the long term. Spain is my country, Madrid is my city, at home.

"And well, when I went to Manchester, I remember a conversation I had with my parents in which they asked me if I was sure because I was going to another country, another culture.
