Tottenham: £110k-a-week star would be 'massively exciting' deal at Hotspur Way

Tottenham target James Maddison would be an “exciting signing” for the north Londoners, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Antonio Conte has been crying out for a creative midfielder for some time and the Leicester City star has been a name constantly mentioned with a potential move to the capital.

Tottenham enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, with Conte bringing in no fewer than seven new faces, including the likes of Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison.

But the Italian was unable to sign a No.10, which has been evident in some of Spurs’ performances this season despite their positive start to the season.

That wasn’t without trying, though, with reports claiming that Conte’s side were ‘seriously considering‘ a move for Maddison, who’s been one of the standout creators in the Premier League for some 18 months now.

Newcastle were also keen on Maddison’s signature and the Toon Army saw two bids rejected, with Leicester not willing to lose one of their most-prized assets.

But Maddison’s £110,000 per-week contract will have just 12 months remaining at the end of this season, which could see Tottenham step up their attempts to sign him.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Maddison would be a massively exciting signing for Tottenham, it would give them a load of things they don’t have at the moment.”

Despite Leicester being rock-bottom of the Premier League, Maddison has still done himself justice in their opening nine games.

That’s because across those nine appearances, Maddison is still catching the eye on a weekly basis, even though his side have already suffered seven defeats.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals, bettered only by just six players in the league, while he’s registered two assists.
