Tony Smith says St Helens' reputation precedes them, but Hull KR are ready for Sunday's challenge

Hull KR have their toughest test of 2022 so far on the horizon, with three-peat champions St Helens next up for the Robins.

The Red and White's are back in the winners' circle as they ran in seven tries to claim an impressive 43-16 victory over Salford Red Devils last week, but understand they have to up their levels once again as they head over to Merseyside to challenge the league's best.

Rovers, who haven't beaten Saints since 2015, when an Albert Kelly brace inspired them to a 24-22 victory at Craven Park, will go into the game as the underdogs, but head coach Tony Smith insists anything can happen once the teams take to the field.

"It's all about how you are on the day," said Smith. "If we execute well and ask questions, anything can happen. Of course, they are a great team and have deserved the accolades they have achieved over the past few years, but we want to perform well and give ourselves a chance.

"You have to provide a performance against them. If not, you'll come up second best. We are focusing on our game and will never rule ourselves out in any game. We've done our homework on what Saints are likely to produce, and that's down to use to stop it."

During the covid hit season of 2020, Hull KR predominantly played their games in St Helens, with Merseyside even hosting the Hull Derby. However, Smith isn't too worried that eight of his side's remaining 13 games this year are away from home.

"It's a big ask away from home, but we spent half of 2020 there, so it's like our home ground," Smith joked. "Plenty of our guys are familiar with the ground, but we need to perform if we are away or at Craven Park. I don't care.
