Hull KR coach Tony Smith picks out what went wrong in Huddersfield Giants defeat

Hull KR head coach Tony Smith has been searching for the positives from the club's latest defeat despite watching his team fall apart in the second half as Huddersfield Giants thrashed the Robins 38-10 at Sewell Group Craven Park.

The defeat leaves the red and whites in seventh on the Super League ladder, with just one victory in the last seven games as the club's poor form continues.

Rovers crumbled in the second half as they conceded five tries in 27 minutes. However, Smith was happy with the way his team performed in the opening 40 minutes and believes the contest was anyone's game as the two sides heading into the break.

"First of all, I think it was a great first half of rugby league," said Smith. "It was two competitive teams who troubled each other. I thought our defence was terrific in the first half. We had a try disallowed, and the way they scored was from two kicks.

"I'll need to take a look at whether Frankie Halton's try and Cudjoe's should or shouldn't have been awarded, but it's not going to change the result."

Smith also believed the two quick-fire tries from the visitors early in the second half caught his team by surprise, as Rovers never recovered from Luke Yates and Ricky Leutele's soul-destroying four-pointers.

"They're the games that you want to be a part of. But, unfortunately, in the second half, we didn't have the same intensity, and when we conceded back-to-back tries straight after the break, it changed the whole vibe and spectrum of the game.

"You go from being in a real battle to chasing the game, and your whole mindset has to change. But, unfortunately, that's the way it panned out, and we are frustrated because that's not how we wanted the game to finish."
