Hull KR have major Tony Smith decision to make as 2022 hopes threaten to unravel

Hull KR's recent dip in form is becoming a real worry for everybody involved with the club. Sunday's 38-10 home defeat to Huddersfield Giants added to the Robins' woes after key players George King and Ryan Hall left the field early with their respective injuries.

On their day, the majority of teams in Super League can beat anyone in the division, and sometimes you can understand a better side has conquered you. Still, what's worrying is the manner of defeats that are being inflicted upon Rovers currently.

For extensive periods of the game, Rovers are becoming passengers and finding it impossible to find any sort of momentum and create territory and possession, with the attacking guile and exciting style of rugby adopted under Tony Smith gone from the club's armoury.

Rovers have won just one in seven, and the chasing pack are creeping ever closer as only six points split fifth-placed Hull FC and eleventh-placed Wakefield Trinity.

The main fear when Tony Smith informed the rugby league world that he would not be continuing as KR coach in 2023 was that the wheels would come falling off as time ticked on, and after recent showings, that prophecy could be coming true.

It would be unfair to say Smith and the players have lost their motivation because, honestly, that's not true. But what can be said is since the head coach announced he would be leaving, the team's performances and some individual efforts haven't been up to scratch, which has resulted in many of the club's supporters wanting the hierarchy of Rovers to call time early on Smith's tenure.
