Todd Cantwell back in Rangers fold as rebel pictured to spark shock return talk

Todd Cantwell has been pictured at Rangers first team training ahead of Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash against Motherwell at Hampden Park, sparking talk of the possibility of a return.

Philippe Clement dropped the bombshell news last month that the former Norwich City man had handed in a transfer request at Ibrox. And reports in Turkey claimed a move to Trabzonspor was on the cards following a whirlwind visit from one of the Super Lig club's directors to Glasgow earlier this week.

Cantwell was sent to train with the B team rather than be involved in the pre-season friendly against Manchester United at Murrayfield. However, he wasn't involved when the second string took on Middlesbrough earlier this week while Ianis Hagi did feature. Now the 26-year-old playmaker has been spotted by the cameras as Clement puts his players through their paces on the eve of the clash with the Steelmen, when the Light Blues will be hoping to pick up maximum points after a draw with Hearts on the opening day.

Despite the fallout, Clement has always maintained that Cantwell could still have a future at Rangers. The Belgian said: “As long as a player is here and we believe in his qualities, the door is always open. But of course, we need to focus on the guys who are totally with our minds in the club and to getting the results in the next couple of weeks. So we will see what happens.”
