The REAL Celtic reason Mathias Kvistgaarden transfer was torpedoed by Brondby as boss hints at new exit timeline

Brondby boss Jesper Sorensen that "market forces" did not change to allow Mathias Kvistgaarden to join Celtic - as he hinted a January price could have been reached.

But he has left the door open for a the Danish striker to make a summer move to the Scottish Premiership - admitting he would not stand in the way of 21-year-old. The Danish striker has been subject to firm Parkhead interest throughout the last two transfer windows and it's an offer worth more than £4m was reportedly rejected in the summer.

That interest was revived in January but the Hoops were met with a firm roadblock with Brondby refusing to allow any first-team stars to leave with the club in the midst of a three-way fight for the Danish Super League title with Copenhagen and Midtjylland. Celtic would turn to Adam Idah and a loan switch from Norwich City to give Brendan Rodgers the striker he desired from the winter window.

But asked about the club's hardline stance to interest in Kvistgaarden from Celtic in the winter window, Sorensen alluded to a softening of their stance if a mega-money offer came in. The boss told Bold: "There are then some market forces that work in a certain way that can change that.

"But I have spoken my mind. Cartsen V. Jensen (Brondby director of football) has also been clear in his opinion quite early on and has said that we have no interest in selling our best players. I can't go in and grab players every time I've heard rumours about them but in relation to Kvistgaarden, it has been important to tell him that he must do everything he can. He must do his best and train to become a better player every single day. He must focus on what lies ahead of him in Brondby."
