Swansea to Carmarthen rail line blocked by fallen tree as high winds hit Wales: live updates

A fallen tree on a major rail line has lead to some services suspended this morning. Transport for Wales and Great Western Railway between Swansea and Carmarthen are affected.

The 6.03am train from Carmarthen to Cardiff Central started from Swansea and didn't call at Carmarthen, Ferryside, Kidwelly, Pembrey and Burry Port, Llanelli and Gowerton.

It comes as a the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind across parts of Wales. According to the forecaster, strong winds leading to some travel disruption will occur during the early hours of Thursday.

Welsh weather forecaster Derek Brockway said that the wind reached storm force 10 near Capel Curig at 3am today with a gust of 74mph. While in Llanfairfechan it was 18°C at 4am with a strong S-SW wind and tropical air.

One of the causes is ex-Hurricane Ernesto which hit through the North Atlantic last week. The warning is in place from 1am until 9am on Thursday morning, before then easing from the west. Some exposed areas could potentially see gusts of 60mph. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.
