LIVE: Manchester Piccadilly rail lines blocked with 'major disruption' expected for hours
Passengers are facing severe delays at Manchester Piccadilly this afternoon due to 'trespassers on the railway'.
Transport bosses are warning services to and from the city centre station could be subject to disruption on all routes, with chaos expected to last until 5pm on Saturday (September 7).
Emergency services have been notified of the incident and are expected to be on the scene shortly, according to a statement on the Northern Rail website.

Affected operators are understood to be Avanti West Coast, Northern, TransPennine Express, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, and Transport for Wales.

In a new update on X, formerly Twitter, National Rail said: "There is a trespasser on the line at Manchester Piccadilly. Network Rail and staff are on site and currently dealing with the incident."
In an update National Rail say services running to / from the station may be cancelled or now severely delayed by up to 80 minutes.
According to National Rail, you may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey. You should keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
National Rail say major disruption now expected until 7pm due to the trespass incident.

Services running to, from, and through Piccadilly station are facing either huge delays or cancellations this afternoon.
For those disrupted services, delays are expected to last for 'up to 60 minutes', according to National Rail.
