Live updates as 11 flood alerts are in place with more thundery rain forecast

Heavy and thundery rain is set to persist across the southern half of Wales on Sunday as the wet spell for the region continues. Flooding, travel disruption, and power cuts could all affect communities after the band of wet weather moved further inland from coastal areas, the Met Office said.

Up to 100mm of rain could fall over a short period of time in some areas by Sunday evening. The A48 in Bridgend was closed for a time overnight as emergency services dealt with a fallen tree.

Natural Resources Wales has got 11 flood alerts in place on Sunday morning. They are mainly in the Swansea and Vale of Glamorgan areas.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across a large part of Wales, which remains in place until 6pm on Sunday. You can find more details of that here.

Further warning updates could be issued during that time including an escalation to amber on a more localised scale. It comes after three consecutive days of heavy rain, starting on Thursday, lashed different areas of Wales.

There was flash flooding on Friday night and hundreds of homes were left without power after heavy rain in a short period of time. Cooler, fresher temperatures are widely expected across the country into next week with a generally unsettled outlook.
