Swansea fire in high-rise building prompts major emergency services response

A fire in a multi-storey building in Swansea city centre prompted a major emergency services response. At least 11 fire crews were called to the blaze in New Cut Road with people advised to avoid the area after the incident began shortly after 4pm on Monday.

A statement from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 4.08pm on Monday, November 18, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Swansea Central, Port Talbot, Neath, Pontardawe, Llanelli, Morriston, and Carmarthen fire stations were called to an incident on New Cut Road in Swansea city centre.

"Crews responded to a fire on the third floor of a multi-storey property. Crews utilised four breathing apparatus sets, one main jet, and one thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

"All persons were accounted for. Crews were involved in ventilating the property after the fire was extinguished and conducted searches of other floors. Crews began leaving the scene at 5.15pm."
