Ruben Amorim has instant Manchester United problem to solve with 'very down' star

Sweden teammate Emil Holm admits Victor Lindelof risks returning to Manchester United "very down" after the defender picked up a worrisome injury in his country's win over Slovakia on Saturday night.

Ruben Amorim already had five defensive concerns ahead of his first game against Ipswich on Sunday afternoon, including that of Lisandro Martinez, who withdrew from Argentina duty after sustaining a back injury during a 3-0 victory over Leicester City prior to the international break.

Lindelof has now become the sixth worry after being forced off with an issue inside 25 minutes of Sweden's win this weekend. The 30-year-old had to be helped off the field by two physios having received treatment on his leg.

This is the fourth injury Lindelof has nursed so far this calendar year, having missed the start of the current season with a toe injury before his first outing on October 6. He also battled groin and hamstring injuries prior to the summer.

As a result, he has only played 18 matches for United in 2024. The nature and severity of his latest problem has not yet been diagnosed, but Sweden teammate Holm says the centre-back was downcast in the dressing room.

"It's very sad," Holm said as per Göteborgs-Posten. "He's just come back from injury and then to get another injury, you suffer with that. It was tough to see.

"He was very down in the dressing room, too. He's an important man in the team and he's captain anyway. It was a shame." He added: "I gave him a hug and told him to get well."
