Stretch of A6 blocked after crash as emergency services respond

A stretch of the A6 in Stockport is blocked this afternoon a crash.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash on Buxton Road at around midday today (Tuesday). A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the crash involved two cars.

Three people were hurt, though their injuries are not thought to be serious, the spokesperson added. A stretch of the A6 was fully shut off as emergency crews responded.

It was closed both ways from Mile End Lane to Store Street. One lane has now been reopened on the road to let traffic past, though traffic remains heavy in the area.

A Stagecoach bus service is also diverting. Stagecoach posted on X: "192 Srv Due to a police Incident A6 around Woodsmoor services are diverting via Dialstone Lane & Nangreave Road both directions until further notice."

According to traffic alert service Inrix, just one lane remains shut now on the A6 Buxton Road.

Recovery work is ongoing on the scene and 'traffic is coping well'.

The Stagecoach 192 service is running as normal again.
