Manchester Piccadilly LIVE: All train lines blocked with services 'delayed or cancelled'

Travellers are facing rail chaos at Manchester Piccadilly this evening with ALL lines blocked due to a signalling issue.

Trains running to, from, and through the station on Friday (August 9) may be delayed, cancelled or revised, rail bosses say. Disruption is expected until at least 22:30.

Passengers are permitted to use alternative transport at no extra cost this evening as delays continue, with engineers en route to work on the issue.

A tweet from National Rail reads: "A fault with the signalling system at Manchester Piccadilly means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running to / from / through this station may be subject to delays of up to 30 minutes."

Customer advice has been issued for those travelling on Northern and East Midlands Railway services.

You should continue to travel as originally planned however your journey may be delayed.

You can use your ticket on Metrolink services between Manchester city centre and Altrincham / Manchester Airport / Ashton-under-Lyne at no extra cost.

To assist customers in completing their journey, the following Bee Network / Stagecoach Buses will operate from Manchester Piccadilly:

192 - Service to Stockport / Hazel Grove (change at Stockport for services to Marple)

201 - Service to Hadfield

205 - Service to Gorton

Trains running to, from, and through Manchester Piccadilly may be delayed by up to 60 minutes, cancelled or revised, according to National Rail.

They are now warning that 'major disruption' is expected until the end of the day.
