Hyde Road taped off after dramatic crash between car and double-decker bus as emergency services swarm area

A main road in Manchester was taped off after a dramatic crash between a double-decker bus and a car on Thursday evening (August 8).

Police, paramedics and fire crews raced to the smash on Hyde Road, near to the junction with Garratt Way, in Gorton, at around 7.50pm.

The road was taped off in both directions after the collision, with buses and other traffic diverted away from the scene. A smashed up vehicle was seen further down the road with the bus also seen within the police cordon.

Pictures from the scene of the incident show a cordon in place, with a number of police vehicles lining Hyde Road amid investigations.

There were no serious injuries reported in the collision, although people involved have been taken to hospital, Greater Manchester Police said.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 7.50pm on Thursday (August 8) one fire engine from Gorton Community Fire Station was called to reports of a crash between a car and a bus on the junction of Hyde Road and Whitwell Way, Gorton.

“Firefighters assisted colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service in making the vehicles and surrounding area safe and were in attendance for around 30 minutes.”
