Sittingbourne to hold trial match this weekend as assistant manager Joe Anderson praises retained players

Sittingbourne are set to hold a trial match in London this weekend as they work on plans for next season.

The game has been organised by manager Reece Prestedge and vice-chairman Andrew Marjeram, and gives the Brickies a chance to look at a number of players.

“We’ve got between 15 and 20 players coming along,” said assistant manager Joe Anderson.

“You never know, there might be three or four gems out of that who we can talk to.

“A lot have been recommended from other clubs, there’s people who have been playing up north and are coming back home, and there’s people out of under-23 systems in pro clubs who need an opportunity to play.

“It’s an opportunity to see some new faces.”

Sittingbourne are working hard on recruitment, signing midfielder Jordy Mongoy from Cray Wanderers, but have also had players approaching them.

The club have a strong reputation after three successive Isthmian South East play-off finishes.

“There’s been loads of boys reaching out directly to us, it’s not just us going to them,” said Anderson.

“A lot of boys have seen what we did last year and they want to be a part of it. We’re going in the right direction.

“To have a full season and with the players we get in, hopefully it makes a difference.”

Sittingbourne have agreed terms with forward Joe Boachie and midfielder D’Sean Theobalds for next season, with keeper Jamie Grossart also on board.

Boachie made his comeback from a knee injury towards the end of the season, avoiding the need for surgery, and will be a key man for the Brickies.

“I think we’re a different team when Boachie plays,” said Anderson.

“He has a big effect because of how physical he is.

“He’s technically a really good player but because of his body shape, people can’t deal with him.
