Hythe Town manager Andy Crush intends to play a full part in life at Reachfields
Andy Crush will fully immerse himself in life at Hythe Town.
The new Cannons manager’s main objective is to revive the fortunes of the first team following successive relegations to Southern Counties East Division 1.
But the role goes beyond that as far as Crush is concerned, and he’s determined to do all he can around the club.
“It’s not just about the first team,” said Crush, who joined the Cannons from Kent County League Premier Division champions Hawkinge last month.
“I’ll go to the 23s games, I’ll be at the trials, all those things where I want to be, not the face of the club, but the person people see everywhere.
“I don’t want it to be, ‘the first-team manager hasn’t bothered with the 23s all season’ because you do see that at other clubs where they’re just not interested.
“If I’m seen around and if I’m at training sessions and games, it creates that pathway and people go, ‘he’s actually about wanting to make this club great again’.”
Crush was on Hythe chairman Andy Nanda’s radar towards the end of last season following Andy Drury’s resignation.
The role was of interest but Crush was focused on clinching the league title at Hawkinge.
Nanda was respectful of his position and the pair held talks when the time was right.
“I was approached at one point and it didn’t quite align because Hythe were already down and Hawkinge were on to win the league,” said Crush, who’s also won two league titles at Deal Town Reserves.
“So I said we’ll have a chat at the end of the season and Andy was really respectful to let me see out my season.
“You hear people say give the job to an experienced manager but that could be a journeyman who’s been at five clubs and never won anything, or you give it to someone who’s won something.
