SFA declare victory over Tory government supporters bus plans as 'unreasonable' proposals torpedoed after fan backlash

The SFA, SPFL and SWPL have released a statement announcing the Tory government has withdrawn their controversial supporters' bus proposals.

The UK traffic commissioner had published new guidelines which would have severely impacted travel plans for millions in Scotland. The proposals encompassed buses for all sporting events but no sport other than football was mentioned specifically while the word "football" appeared more than 30 times.

The plans were universally lambasted with Scottish football's three governing bodies firmly voicing their concern over their "targeted" nature - labelling the proposals "draconian." And a new statement from the SFA, SPFL and SWPL revealed the plans have been ditched.

A joint statement reads: “We are pleased that the Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain has withdrawn the proposed consultation and that common sense has prevailed.

“We are also grateful to clubs, fans and politicians across the country for their unanimous support in opposing and ultimately preventing these unreasonable and unworkable guidelines from being implemented.”
