Julian Alvarez changes role and Oscar Bobb starts - Man City fans' starting XI vs Newcastle

Manchester City supporters want Pep Guardiola to make six changes when his side travel to St. James’ Park tonight.

Newcastle United reached the final of the Carabao Cup last season and present the first obstacle in City’s way to a potential quadruple bid. This was the only competition to elude Guardiola and his team last season.

Going one better and winning every honour possible would be an unprecedented feat in English football but City face a tricky opening test at Newcastle. City boast a dominant record over the Magpies but St. James’ Park has become a fortress in recent seasons.

The fixture does allow Guardiola the opportunity to freshen up his side. MEN Sport readers have decided to overhaul the defence, drafting in Stefan Ortega between the sticks with a back four of Rico Lewis, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and Sergio Gomez.

Kalvin Phillips will definitely start after Guardiola confirmed he would replace Rodri. The England midfielder came off the bench against Nottingham Forest and has spoken of his desire to cement his place in the team.

Fans have named Phil Foden and Matheus Nunes alongside Phillips in midfield. In attack, supporters hope to see Erling Haaland rested, with Julian Alvarez pushed further forward into his natural position.

Jeremy Doku and youngster Oscar Bobb, who has settled for cameos so far this season, are picked to start on the flanks. This is how MEN Sport readers would line up against Newcastle tonight:

Starting XI: Ortega; Lewis, Ake, Akanji, Gomez; Phillips, Nunes, Foden; Bobb, Alvarez, Doku
