Scottish Cup: Albion Rovers boss wants to progress but is wary of 'giant-killing'

Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark admits the prospect of lower-league opposition in the Scottish Cup gives them a chance to progress.

But he’s also wary that both Stirling University and their St Andrews counterparts will see Rovers as a scalp.

Clark takes his side to Forthbank this evening for a televised first round clash against the Stirling students, with the winner hosting St Andrews in the second round on the weekend of October 28.

Stirling are two places below Rovers in the Lowland League, having played three more games, while the Fifers ply their trade in the East of Scotland League.

Clark is wary that his side will be one that both teams will be gunning for and wants them to avoid a banana skin.

He said: “It should give us a chance to progress. St Andrew’s are East of Scotland League, which should make things easier, but it doesn’t work that way.

“Cups are infamous for giant-killing situations, so I honestly haven’t given that a thought.

“It’s about what we do tonight, and after that settles down, hopefully we can look forward to something else.

“We know a bit about Stirling Uni, they know a bit about us. We played them recently, so it’s going to be a tight game, an interesting game, and hopefully a good game for people to watch on TV.

“We’ve had nine days since we played and that’s unusual for us to have so much of a gap.

“We’ve had good training sessions, and the lads have worked hard.

“We’re as prepared as we can be.”

Kick-off is at 7.05pm tonight and the game is on BBC Scotland.
