Sam Lammers finds Rangers proxy to fire parting shot as Ibrox chiefs forced to split transfer payday

Rangers legend Michael Mols has fired a swipe at the the Ibrox squad for not supporting flop striker Sam Lammers.

The Dutchman brought the curtain down on a miserable year in Govan as he penned a three-year-deal with FC Twente - after his six-month loan spell with Eredivise rivals convinced them to splash around £2.7million on the forward. But after bringing in a windfall for the misfiring forward, Rangers will now have to hand over a chunk of their fee to two clubs in the Netherlands.

Two of Lammers' previous clubs are set to benefit because of development clauses from his time at the teams in his homeland. PSV Eindhoven will bank collect £100,000 because Lammers was at the club for five years before moving to Atalanta - while Willem II are also set to receive £10,000 as part of a development fee when he was a kid at the Tilburg outfit.

Despite this, Philippe Clement will be glad to have the 27-year-old off the books - having opted to leave him out of the first-team plans this pre-season. But unhappy Mols played the blame game after this exit telling ESPN : “I think it is a shame that he did not succeed at Rangers. In my time I had players around me who supported me, he did not have that. So it was a lot harder for him.”

However, Mols did concede it was the right time for Lammers to kickstart his career away from the Scottish Premiership. He went on: “No (it’s not too soon for him to go), Scottish football is simply not for him. He is much better suited to the Netherlands, as we have seen again at Utrecht. And Twente is a step up.”
