Roy Keane tears into Manchester United players as clear Ruben Amorim message sent

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has taken aim at the players for Erik ten Hag's sacking this week.

Ten Hag left Old Trafford on Monday lunchtime after United's defeat to West Ham in the Premier League. The 2-1 reverse came in unfortunate circumstances, but left United floundering in the bottom half of the table.

In the immediate aftermath of Ten Hag's sacking, Keane hinted that their players were not holding each other to account on the pitch. But speaking for the first time at length, since Ten Hag's exit, the 53-year-old left little room for doubt as to who was mainly at fault for the Dutchman's failure.

"Disappointed, you always are [after a manager's sacked]," Keane said on Sky Sports. "It's a new start, new manager coming in in a couple of weeks. You always wish him well.

"It's a big challenge for him trying to get Man United back competing at the top of the table. It's a big ask, you wish him well.

"But you always have sympathy for a manager losing his job and ultimately I think, whatever [you think] about the board, the players let him down by their efforts and not being good enough." Ruben Amorim was appointed on Friday to replace Ten Hag and Keane insisted his biggest challenge will be to get this squad of players to perform in the short-term.

"The challenge will be, of course, getting players in," he continued. "We make the point about there's a few players in the United team in big positions who can't run, right, which is a big problem.

"But they also have players who don't want to run, or when they do run they don't run hard enough, or run fast enough or long enough, so he's got to get that
