Rasmus Hojlund transfer to Manchester United would prove Gary Neville right

He knows Manchester United pretty well and Gary Neville could be proven exactly right on his former club's transfer approach this summer.

To a degree, he already has been. Mason Mount has arrived at Old Trafford, with manager Erik ten Hag getting his main midfield target through the door as the first addition of the transfer window. Mount, 24, has put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract in Manchester and will play a crucial role under the Dutchman.

Mount will add quality, experience and energy to United's midfield - but his off-the-ball traits and strong reputation as a team player make him a likable recruit. Ten Hag is now pushing for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, while a bid is reportedly being prepared for Atalanta front man Rasmus Hojlund. In addition to Mount, those two deals would further strengthen the prediction made by Neville earlier this year.

He said: "I feel like Ten Hag is not going to sign (marquee names). If new owners come in they’re going to want to make a statement. They’ll want to blow the transfer market open; I don’t think that will suit him.

"I think he’ll want those younger, hungrier ones that have still got that growth rather than the finished article. Casemiro obviously defeats that a little bit, but you look at Antony and Lisandro Martinez – they’re younger and hungrier. I think that’s the type of player he’ll want to add to this squad, rather than saying: ‘Oh, Kylian Mbappe’s available or so-and-so is available’.”

Signing for United would be the biggest moves of Hojlund and Onana's careers, while Mount is clearly in awe of the football club too. Offering
