Atalanta boss sets Rasmus Hojlund transfer price tag amid Manchester United interest

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini wants Atalanta to recoup at least €80million if they sell Rasmus Hojlund.

Manchester United are in talks with the Serie A club about a deal for their young striker. Erik ten Hag has signed Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer, making a new forward the next priority.

Hojlund has been United's preferred choice after a deal for Harry Kane became too difficult. Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Randal Kolo Muani is an alternative target.

Gasperini wants the 20-year-old to stay in Italy but admits the market will dictate whether Atalanta can retain his services. Either way, he believes the club must value Hojlund between €80m and €100m.

"I think so, then after that it’s difficult here too," he said. "He undoubtedly has great talent, but also great room for improvement.

"These things are visible in both senses, he must work to improve because he has the characteristics to become one of the strongest strikers in the world.

‘I don’t know if he’s leaving, the market is unpredictable. I hope for the club they €80, 90, 100m.

"The market value changes. But among the young emerging players in his role, if not the best, he is among the best in Europe."

Manchester United will need player sales to get close to the upper echelons of that valuation. Fred is attracting interest from Fulham whilst Onana's arrival could pave the way for Dean Henderson to join Nottingham Forest.
