Met Office issue huge thunderstorms weather warning for large parts of UK tomorrow

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms that covers Greater Manchester.

The warning is set to come into place at 9am tomorrow (Saturday) and last until 11.59pm. It covers all of our region, as well as much of England and Scotland.

Forecasters predict heavy showers and thunderstorms to hit following a warm and sunny day today. In the areas covered by the warning, there could be some flooding, the Met Office predicts.

The storm may cause some delays on public transport and on roads. There might also be some power cuts in the areas hit by the storm.

After a largely sunny day today in our region, with temperatures reaching 27C this afternoon, showers are forecast from around 9am tomorrow. Some heavier showers and increased risk of thunderstorms are forecast for the afternoon.

The mercury will reach highs of around 22C. Dan Harris, Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, said: "Despite the warm start to the weekend weather for most, we expect a steady transition back to cooler and more unsettled weather with the development of some intense thundery downpours.

"Whilst we have high confidence in the general trends, there remains sufficient uncertainty to preclude us from being able to pin down the most likely locations of the most intense and potentially impactful thunderstorms. The main message at the moment is to be aware of the potential for heavy downpours with lightning, hail and gusty winds, so keep in touch with the latest forecasts.

"Warnings may be issued in due course, should confidence increase. However, the vast majority of places will avoid the worst conditions."
