Rangers transfer news as Ronnie Edwards 'attracts' interest with stiff EPL competition and Jake Cooper race 'emerges'

Rangers have already made a glut of signings this campaign but Michael Beale may look to continue to bolster his backline.

Defensive injuries to Ben Davies, Leon King and for a long period Connor Goldson have left the Londoner short on occasion, with the only backline recruit of the summer in Dujon Sterling from Chelsea just starting to turn out for the Light Blues. He joined returning Leon Balogun who signed a short-term deal. But Beale's new faces have been thrown in at the league and Champions League deep end but it was old reliable James Tavernier who scored to help seal progression in the qualifying tie with Servette, setting up a tantalising rematch with PSV Eindhoven in the aim of group stage glory.

But according to BBC Sport, Rangers could look to beef up centre-half options before the transfer window slams shut in just over two weeks. Peterbrough United's Ronnie Edwards has been linked with a move away to Premier League West Ham United, who recently yielded in their pursuit of Manchester United's Harry Maguire, and Bournemouth. But now Rangers have been name checked among the clubs interested in the 20-year-old who featured for England at the Under-20 World Cup and won the European Championship in 2022 with his country.

Edwards was a rock at London Road last season, making 44 appearances in England's League One but is said to have attracted interest from the top flight down south in previous seasons. Meanwhile it appears the Light Blues have also been credited with interest for more experienced centre-half Jake Cooper from Millwall.
