Livingston Women's ace sees plenty of positives despite SWPL2 opening loss

Livingston Women’s ace Bryony Ross admits there’s plenty to be positive about as the Lionesses aim to bounce back from their SWPL2 opening day defeat.

Livi produced a decent display for large spells against Kilmarnock and even took an early lead through Jess Murphy, but a late double from substitute Lucie Burns put paid to any hopes of a result as the visitors ran out 4-1 winners.

They’ll be aiming to get their account up and running on Sunday when they travel to face Glasgow Women.

Speaking to the West Lothian Courier, the former Partick Thistle and Boroughmuir Thistle player, said: “It felt like we played well for about 75 minutes and gave a good account of ourselves.

“We’re a brand new team and there’s been a few signings so it’s about getting those player combinations figured out and getting used to playing with your team-mates in a competitive match.

“We were under no illusion because Kilmarnock have been in this league for a good few seasons and have kept the core of their team. You could see that they were used to each other.”

She added: “We’re still in the process of getting that familiarity but you can see it coming together and you can feel it when you’re on the pitch that it’s all going in the right direction. It was good to get a competitive match under our belts in this league.

Ross returned to the game last season for a spell at Falkirk having missed over a year through injury and admits she’s delighted to get back playing.

She commented: “Not long after I’d signed for Boroughmuir, I got an injury and needed two surgeries that put me on the sidelines for about 18 months.

“I had about eight weeks at Falkirk which was good and helped me build confidence and fitness. It was good to get back playing football
