Alfredo Morelos post Rangers transfer suitors named by bullish agent with football wilderness escape 'still possible'

Former Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is in talks with Zenit and Spartak Moscow, according to his bullish agent.

The Colombian forward is still without a club despite being available on a pre-contract since January and as a free agent since leaving Rangers at the end of last season. The frontman maintained last month that he was searching for a club at a 'top European league' and insisted he wasn't concerned about not getting an offer but despite speculation over a move to Everton, Watford and Sevilla a deal has failed to materialise.

It has been suggested that a move to South America could be on the cards - but his agent Martin Camagno has touted Russia as the top destination for the 27-year-old after leaving the Scottish Premiership. Initial reports had suggested that a move to Spartak had fallen apart but Morelos' representative has declared a deal is still on this summer.

Speaking to Sport24, Camagno said: “The transfer of Morelos to Russia is still possible. There is not only Zenit and Spartak showing interest in him, but also other Russian Premier League clubs.”

A move to Russia would signal a switch to the fringes of European football - with their clubs still banned from UEFA competitions following the invasion of Ukraine. Despite a disappointing final season at Ibrox, Morelos left Govan with an impressive goalscoring record and a spot in the Rangers history books having become the club's leading European goalscorer.
