Police swarm area outside primary school following incident as parents picked up children

Police swarmed an area outside a primary school following an incident on Wednesday afternoon (February 5) as parents were picking up their children.

Officers had been called to reports of a disturbance on Vulcan Street, in the Derker area of Oldham, near to the entrance of Willowpark Primary Academy at around 3.20pm.

By the time officers arrived, the disturbance had ended, however a man in his 20s was subsequently arrested on suspicion of affray and taken into custody. Police confirmed the incident occurred on the street outside of the school.

Further details about the incident have not yet been confirmed however one parent told the M.E.N that officers returned to the school again on Thursday. An investigation is underway, and any witnesses are being urged to contact Greater Manchester Police.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 3.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 5 February 2025), we were called to reports of a disturbance on Vulcan Street in Oldham.

"Officers attended the scene, but the disturbance had ended by the time police arrived.

"A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody for questioning. This is believed to be an isolated incident and investigations are ongoing.
