LIVE: Police storm Greater Manchester road with traffic stopped - latest updates

Several police officers have descended on a major Greater Manchester road with an incident ongoing.

Images show multiple Greater Manchester Police vehicles in attendance on Halifax Road, in Rochdale, this morning (February 19).

Pictures from the scene show a GMP vehicle blocking traffic on Halifax Road.

Further along the road, a number of police cars have stopped outside Smallbridge Clinic.

At least one unmarked police car is among those which have stopped. An ambulance is also in attendance.

Eyewitnesses have reported seeing as many as eight police vehicles in attendance.

A police helicopter has also reportedly been seen above the area.

Footage circulating on social media appears to show a person detained by officers, while another person has been receiving treatment from paramedics.

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing a police pursue a Nissan Qashqai around Rochdale before the car came to a stop on Halifax Road.

A heavy emergency services presence swiftly descended on the area.

Traffic has been stopped on Halifax Road heading towards Littleborough.
