Philippe Clement resists Rangers title roar as toppling Celtic put on backburner for familiar mantra

Philippe Clement insists he remains laser-focussed on the next game rather than turning his attention to the title race with Celtic.

The Light Blues moved to top spot in the Scottish Premiership as Mohamed Diomande 's thumping effort and two penalties from captain James Tavernier saw off St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park and leapfrogged Celtic - after Brendan Rodgers' side stumbled in their bid to defend the title with a draw at home against Kilmarnock. But despite hype building around the club with Rangers on a nine-game winning streak and moving ahead of their rivals, Clement has stuck to a mantra that will already be familiar to the Ibrox faithful.

When asked about the title picture, Clement refused to look beyond Hearts next Saturday telling Sky Sports: "It is nothing to do with the ranking. We can only talk about our results and they have been really good until now. We have a really good series of wins now but we can only look to the next game.

"That is my mentality. That is my character, and I know that is the only way to be when there are other good teams in the league. It's about the three points and it's a difficult game in the circumstances, in that we had to play a different kind of football.

"The team is now ready to play different kinds of football comfortably and in a good way. We were never in doubt for one second in the game and that's a big step forward from a few months ago."
