Opinion: Celtic summer transfers vindicated by assist statistic
Celtic‘s attacking play has been key to the Hoops’ rise to the top of the Scottish Premiership this season, as the Bhoys have scored a host of goals under manager Ange Postecoglou.
He is a manager that likes to play attacking football, and it is not a surprise to see that the Hoops have scored the most goals in the Premiership this season.
The Hoops have had a lot of joy on the wings this season, and it is perhaps no surprise that the two players with the most Celtic goal assists this season are wingers – Jota and Liel Abada. They both have 11 assists, whilst midfielder Tom Rogic has 10.
It will be interesting to see which of the players ends the season as Celtic’s top assist provider, hopefully the trio are able to add more assists before the end of the season.
The fact that the top two assist providers were summer transfer signings is vindication of the players that were brought in by Ange Postecoglou. There was no guarantee that Jota and Abada would do well in Glasgow, but both players have been integral to how the Bhoys have performed this season.
Both players have also managed to score double figures in goals this season, which is a fine achievement for two wingers, which once more shows just how good a signing that each player has been for the Bhoys. They have scored 25 goals between them, which have proved to be very valuable when you consider the injury issues that Celtic have had up-front.
Celtic’s current 33-game unbeaten domestic run has been the key to the Hoops’ success up until now this season, and Abada and Jota have been mainstays for that run.
Both players have managed to avoid injury for most of the season, which is very important, and between them they have made 83 appearances for the Hoops in season
