Celtic: 'Postecoglou will be looking' at 21 y/o star at Parkhead

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou will take a look at Osaze Urhoghide before deciding the youngster’s next steps in his career.

The 21-year-old made the switch north of the border from Sheffield Wednesday last summer but joined Belgian side Oostende on loan for the rest of the season in January following a lack of opportunities.

Despite Postecoglou saying that Celtic had been tracking the 6 ft 2 defender for a ‘while,’ he’s made just the solitary appearance for the Glasgow giants.

Urhoghide, described as ‘immense’ by Wednesday manager Darren Moore, had been an unused substitute on a number of occasions before eventually making his debut in the Europa League victory over Real Betis before Christmas.

He would play 90 minutes against the La Liga outfit, but he wouldn’t get another chance to impress before he made the loan switch to Oostende on transfer deadline day with an option to buy.

Since his move to Belgium, Urhoghide has established himself as a regular, playing seven times in the Jupiler Pro League and has played the full 90 in each of the last six.

Such is his form, O’Rourke believes that Oostende want to sign the ex-Owls defender on a permanent basis but expects Postecoglou to evaluate the situation before deciding what happens next with the Dutchman.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s going to be an interesting one, I’m sure Celtic will consider this in the summer to see what they want to do with him.

“He’s obviously gone out to Belgium and done very well. Oostende are very keen to make that signing permanent, but I’m sure Ange Postecoglou will be looking at him.”
