Oldham fire: Scene of devastation as huge blaze rips through barn

This was the scene of devastation after a huge blaze broke out in Oldham. Six fire engines raced to the scene in Royton to tackle the fire, which was reported at 7.20pm last night.

Dramatic videos taken from the scene near Harewood Drive revealed the scale of the fire.

Fire crews remained at the scene this morning as an investigation into the cause of the blaze continues.

Police were also present. The M.E.N. has contacted Greater Manchester Police for more information.

Images taken this morning reveal the scale of the destruction caused by the huge fire, which could be seen for miles around as smoke billowed into the sky. No-injuries have been reported.

In a statement released to the M.E.N. this morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just before 7.20pm yesterday (Saturday March 30) six fire engines from Rochdale, Ashton, Littleborough, Whitefield and Chadderton fire stations were called to a fire involving a derelict barn and some trees on Harewood Drive, Royton.

"Firefighters set up a cordon and used three jets, one high pressure hose and one hose reel to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.

"Crews worked through the night to damp down any remaining hot spots and clear debris to make the area safe. GMFRS remain in attendance."
