Snake Pass closed LIVE updates as 'serious crash' causes traffic chaos

A major road between Manchester and Sheffield is closed following a 'serious crash'. Police have shut a stretch of the A57 Snake Pass this afternoon (March 31).

The road is currently closed in both directions between Hurst Road, in Glossop, and the Ladybower Reservoir. Drivers are being urged to use alternative routes.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police posted on X (formerly Twitter): "The A57 Snake Pass is closed between Hurst Road in Glossop and the junction with Ladybower Reservoir following a serious collision. Please avoid the area and use alternative routes."

There is currently standing traffic approaching the scene in both directions, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system. Delays are also building on the A57 in Mottram, Tameside.
