LIVE: Greater Manchester Police confirm man has died as blaze rips through home - latest updates

A man has died after a fire broke out at a house in Tameside.

The blaze broke out at a terraced home on Kipling Avenue in Droylsden at around 11.55pm last night (April 9). Four fire engines raced to the scene.

A specialist fire service drone was also used as the fire ripped through the house. Tragically, a man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said a woman and child were also in the house but did not suffer any injuries. An investigation has been launched.

Emergency crews remain on the scene today. Pictures show the front of the house left badly damaged with charring across the bricks and smashed windows.

Forensic officers are on the scene carrying out investigations. It has not yet been confirmed whether anyone was seriously injured.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 11.55pm on Tuesday 9 April, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a home on Kipling Avenue, Droylsden.

“Four fire engines from Ashton, Blackley, Philips Park and Gorton fire stations, as well as the GMFRS drone unit, were quickly mobilised to the incident. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. GMFRS crews remain in attendance.”

Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker of GMP’s Tameside district, said: "This is clearly a devastating and shocking incident in which a man has sadly lost his life and that remains in our thoughts as we start to progress our investigations into the circumstances of the fire.
