Michael Stewart rigorously defends his Todd Cantwell sweary as BBC issue 'don't repeat' warning and full apology

Michael Stewart doubled down on the radio sweary he used in a hypothetical Todd Cantwell scenario on how the wantaway Rangers midfielder could be perceived within the Light Blues dressing room.

The English midfielder did not play a single minute of the pre-season campaign, with boss Philippe Clement confirming that the 26-year-old has handed in a transfer request. Cantwell - who has been linked with Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah - was left out of the matchday squad for the Gers Premiership opener against Hearts at Tynecastle and was also omitted from the squad for the crucial double header with Dynamo Kiev in qualifying for the revamped Champions League.

Pundit Stewart is never one to mince his words, and his use of a swear word live on radio prompted BBC host Kenny MacIntyre to urge listeners not to repeat the former Jambos star's colourful choice of words. Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Stewart said: "I think it's dependent on the actual character. If he's regarded as a good lad and a strong member of the team, personally I would hope that he can be persuaded in his mind to hang about. If he's a bit of a p**** and you don't really like him, then maybe you are thinking to yourself 'I don't want him in the dressing room and would rather he left.'"

Alarmed by the expletive, host MacIntyre commented: "Don't repeat what Michael said, but we know what you meant" before the ex midfielder hit back by arguing: "There is nothing wrong with that Kenny, surely?".
