Rabbi Matondo to Blackburn terms emerge and Rangers have 2 replacements in their sights - Ibrox transfer state of play

Blackburn Rovers are considering a move for Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo.

The Welshman is one of a number of wide options the English Championship side is looking at. Blackburn’s head of recruitment is no stranger to Rangers. John Park had a spell at Ibrox under former chief executive Ross Wilson and knows all about Matondo. Any potential deal would need to be a loan with Rangers picking up a significant part of the player’s wages.

Matondo had previously been linked with Leeds, but that has failed to come to fruition. Rangers signed Matondo from Schalke 04 back in 2022, but he hasn’t had the impact that was hoped. He is one of a number of players the Ibrox club is keen to move on to free up significant wages for boss Philippe Clement to strengthen his squad.

The Light Blues are looking to bring in an attacking midfielder, who can also play on the flank. Fiorentina’s Josip Brekalo and Benfica’s Tiago Gouveia are both names that are being considered by Clement.

It would be a loan move with a possible option to buy, although there would be no obligation. But that situation could change if Rangers were to get others off the books.
