Manchester United working on deal for Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United are working on a late deal to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat, 26, was one of 10 midfielders United shortlisted at the start of the summer but the club have shown a lack of conviction about the Morocco international.

However, with Friday's transfer deadline looming there has been a shift and United are now looking to sign Amrabat on loan, having claimed that if he were to leave Fiorentina it would be for another club.

Agency sources indicated United were under-promising ahead of over-delivering, but the possible addition of Amrabat would still raise questions about the club's strategy in the market.

Senior figures at United have complained about speculation surrounding Amrabat in the Italian media, yet Fiorentina are the third Serie A club United have dealt with, having signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan and Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

Although summer signing Mason Mount suffered a muscular injury in the defeat to Tottemham earlier this month, United manager Erik ten Hag has always wanted to bolster his midfield with another addition.

Amrabat was born in the Netherlands and played for Eredivisie clubs Utrecht and Feyenoord. The majority of United's signings under Ten Hag have played in the Netherlands.

Fiorentina have left Amrabat out of both of their Serie A matches this season and he is out of contract next year.

Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch had been floated as another possible midfield incoming due to his peripheral role at Bayern Munich.
