Manchester United's Evan Ferguson approach 'laughed off' and other transfer rumours

Manchester United were reportedly laughed out of the building when they approached Brighton and Hove Albion for Evan Ferguson this summer.

MEN Sport understands the 18-year-old is a player of interest at United after bursting onto the scene on the South Coast. So far this season, the Irishman has scored four goals in five Premier League outings including a hat-trick against Newcastle prior to the international break.

While an injury has prevented him from adding to this tally, Ferguson is showing signs he is the real deal and Alan Shearer has even compared him to Erling Haaland due to his pace and strength. Reports from ESPN suggest there was an attempt from United to sign the forward in the summer.

The article claims United approached Brighton with an offer of £50million but the Seagulls were not having any of it. Reports suggested Roberto De Zerbi's team see Ferguson as their next £100m player.

Elsewhere, United have been told they will need to 'act fast' if they wish to snap up another promising young talent. Mundo Deportivo understands Barcelona are pushing hard to sign Royal Antwerp's Arthur Vermeeren and benefitted from playing the Belgian outfit in the Champions League in midweek by using it as an opportunity to speak with his representatives.

Sport declared in May, Ten Hag was 'in love' with the 18-year-old central midfielder who has made himself an undroppable for the Jupiler Pro League side. Despite being on the receiving end of a 5-0 drumming, Vermeeren remains popular with Barca and they will push United hard in the race to sign him.
