Manchester United 'suffer blow in £87million pursuit' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United scouts have been watching Javi Guerra in recent weeks but Valencia have no intention of selling their young star, according to reports.

Central midfield is one of four key areas identified by Erik ten Hag for next summer, with the Dutchman keen to spread the goalscoring burden across the team. United have struggled to find the net so far this season, with Antony and Mason Mount yet to score while the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial have just one each.

Guerra has enjoyed an excellent start to the season in Spain, registering three goals and an assist in eight La Liga appearances. Such form has reportedly attracted plenty of interest and The Daily Mail reports that United have been monitoring the 20-year-old's development.

However, Valencia sporting director Miguel Angel Corona has made clear their intention to keep the young midfielder who is under contract until 2027. The report suggests there is an £87million release clause in his current deal.

Elsewhere, Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that Juventus have emerged as a potential destination for the United-linked Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Ten Hag's side were linked with the Danish international as they searched for a late addition in central midfield. They instead took Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina and can make his move permanent for €20m plus add-ons.
