Manchester United learn of new Nico Williams rival and more transfer rumours

Brighton and Hove Albion have joined the race to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, according to reports in Spain.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the 21-year-old in recent weeks, following an unsuspected shortage of options on the right-wing. Antony only returned to Carrington on Saturday after allegations of abuse were made against him, while Jadon Sancho has been banished from the first-team picture following a fallout with Erik ten Hag.

Williams' contract with Athletic Bilbao expires in the summer, with little sign of a new deal being agreed. It means he could leave as a free agent and can even enter pre-contract talks with prospective suitors in January.

United are reported to be keeping tabs on the situation but according to Fichajes, they are not alone. Brighton are said to be keen to pick up another bargain, with Roberto De Zerbi a big fan of the Spanish international.

United have admired De Jong ever since Ten Hag's arrival at Old Trafford. The pair worked together at Ajax, with technical midfield additions at the top of last summer's shopping list.

Now cold water could be poured on any future move, with a new long-term deal set to be agreed.
