Manchester United need more than just a striker to solve scoring problem

It is no secret that Manchester United are in desperate need of a striker this summer.

In fact, it is such common knowledge that it could actually be a disadvantage, given that any selling club could use the desperation to demand a much higher fee for any player they show an interest in.

United have already given up any genuine hopes of signing Harry Kane, and there isn't an obvious back-up available either. Victor Osimhen looks set to stay at Napoli for at least another season, while Rasmus Hojlund and Randal Kolo Muani might not be available for the cheaper fees they once were.

It leaves them in somewhat of a dilemma as they decide what to do next. The bottom line is that they need at least one new arrival, even if they aren't of the elite calibre they'd hoped for.

United didn't manage to replace Cristiano Ronaldo last season and will have to bring in a replacement for Wout Weghorst following his loan move, even if that is simply as another attacking option rather than as a starter.

It could mean that Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are once again tasked with primarily leading the line for another season, given United might find it a lot easier to sign an elite option next summer instead when Kane is out of contract.

Another season without a proven goalscorer could all but end any hopes of a successful title bid before a ball is even kicked, but United's need for more goals goes beyond being simply solved by a new centre-forward.
