Man City have three players that could have the impact of a new signing

Manchester City are busy in the transfer window looking to add to their squad.

Mateo Kovacic has already walked through the door, the club are trying to add RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol to their ranks, and there are a host of players on list where interest could be firmed up following departures in the first team. Bernardo Silva, Aymeric Laporte, Kyle Walker, and Riyad Mahrez are among those who are by no means certain to still be at the club when the market shuts.

As well as new signings, it is not unusual where Pep Guardiola is involved for some previous signings to come good. Jack Grealish is the latest in a long line of recruits at the Etihad who have improved considerably after a challenging 12 months of learning what exactly is expected of them.

These developments may not excite some as much as new signings do, but could be just as important to the success of the team. For this coming season, there are three main contenders to be the breakout from the squad.

Julian Alvarez may not know what has hit him this summer as he actually enjoys an extended period of rest for the first time in forever. Alvarez played through at River Plate after signing for City and then went straight to pre-season with the Blues before including a World Cup final victory in his incredible year.

It was a promising enough start under Guardiola for Alvarez to earn a new contract, and there is excitement at the Etihad at the role the Argentine has to play in the club's future. At the same time, there will be more expectations around that potential as the player settles into life.
