Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes responds to criticism about his captaincy
Bruno Fernandes has insisted everyone at Manchester United is happy with his leadership and captaincy at the club. Harry Maguire was expected to leave United in the summer and he was stripped of the armband by Erik ten Hag, which led to Fernandes officially being named captain.
Fernandes was the de facto captain last season in the absence of Maguire in matches, who made just eight league starts, but the conversation around his credentials to wear the armband has continued.
The midfielder joined Ten Hag for his pre-match press conference at Carrington on Tuesday afternoon ahead of facing Galatasaray in the Champions League and he opened up on dealing with the criticism.

Fernandes insisted everyone at the club are happy with his leadership and said there would always be critics when representing United.
"You don't like to be criticised, but I think everyone is the same," he said. "But at the same time, I have to do what is best for the team. I’m probably not always right, but in my head, at that moment, it's the right choice.
"I think it’s quite normal when you play for Manchester United you will be criticised, even when you do well or bad, the right thing or the wrong thing, so I have to deal with that. It's normal since I arrived at the club.
"When the results aren’t coming and the performances aren't what everyone expects and my numbers make me a target, not keeping the same numbers with goals and assists is sometimes a problem with criticism.
"Now it's the captaincy, there will always be something but my focus is on the team and staff, everyone who works here day by day and I'm pretty sure they are happy with me
