"Slit throat, dismember body, place pieces in bin bags": Court read teens' messages before Brianna Ghey's death

Jurors in the murder trial of Brianna Ghey have heard details about a note found in one defendant's bedroom. Brianna, 16, a transgender girl, died after being stabbed 28 times in a park near Warrington, jurors at Manchester Crown Court have heard.

The two defendants, both aged 16, known in press reports as Girl X and Boy Y, deny murder. Girl X, from Culcheth, and Boy Y, from Leigh, cannot be named for legal reasons.

The court heard yesterday (Monday) that Girl X had told Boy Y that she was 'obsessed' with Brianna. They had discussed killing Brianna previously, jurors heard, and had allegedly planned to kill Brianna two weeks earlier, but she had not turned up.

Brianna was found by dog walkers in Linear Park in Culcheth near Warrington, at about 3pm on Saturday February 11. Her bloodied body was found face down in some mud, having been stabbed 28 times to the head, neck, back and chest, the jury has previously been told.

On Tuesday morning, the jury was told about a note found by police in the bedroom of Girl X. Prosecutor Deanna Heer told the court Girl X was arrested at her home on suspicion of murder, at 7.30pm on February 12.

After being cautioned, the jury heard she said: "Me being a suspect, is it cos I’m the last person to see her?” At about the same time, Boy Y was arrested on suspicion of murder at his home. “I can explain," he said after he was cautioned, jurors heard.

Both of their mobile phones were seized by officers, the court was told. Police carried out searches at both properties, jurors heard.
