Manchester United 'interested' in goalkeeper who beat Andre Onana to Serie A award and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, according to reports in Italy.

Erik ten Hag looked to Serie A for his first-choice shot-stopper over the summer, spending £47.2m to bring Andre Onana over from Inter Milan. The 27-year-old had played under Ten Hag at Ajax and was brought in to replace David de Gea, who left as a free agent.

Onana helped Inter to the Champions League final last season but was pipped to the Serie A's Goalkeeper of the Season award by Provedel. And according to Il Messaggero (via Football Italia), that has alerted United to his services.

Having initially been signed as a back-up goalkeeper, Provedel kept an incredible 20 clean sheets in 37 league appearances last season, conceding just 30 goals in that period. Lazio will not sell the 29-year-old for less than €35m (£30.3m).

Elsewhere, 90min reports that Tottenham have joined the race for Blackburn Rovers youngster Adam Wharton.

United are cited with a long-term interest in the midfielder, who at 19 years old is emerging as one of the hottest prospects to come out of Ewood Park. Wharton broke into the Rovers' first-team last season and has become a constant presence since, racking up 39 senior appearances.

Brighton, Everton, Liverpool, and Newcastle and also said to be long-term admirers of the youngster, who is contracted until 2027. Tottenham boast a positive relationship with Rovers which could give them an advantage, having signed former teammate Ashley Phillips in the summer.
